TICK CONTROL IN KIRUHURA DISTRICT AND THE COUNTRY AT LARGE

The Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries lauched a new drug (Vectoclor Acaricide) last month on 10th July, 2017 at the Kiruhura District Headquarters by the President of the Republic of Uganda H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. Since then, the district started the programme to test on the effectiveness of the drug with whole campaign being spearheaded by both the District and Ministry officials.

Reports from the 18 Lower Local Governments in selected 82 parishes of Kiruhura District on trial indicate that the drug is effective and there are higher chances that it will serve the supposed at the end of the trial whould last for six months.

It is from this trial exercise that Government of Uganda will roll out the spraying of cattle throughout the country to elliminate ticks. Subsequent to that, the ministry will gazette or separate the country into two zones, one in the North of the River Nile and another one South of the Nile. These zones will help to manage and control ticks in the country.
